This Course  is essential as preparation for the RYA Day Skipper Practical Course.  An RYA Day Skipper Theory Certificate will be issued to successful candidates.  There are no prior requirements for this course.
The RYA Day Skipper Theory course covers the following:
    Tidal heights and tidal streams
    Buoyage
    Collision regulations
    Meteorology
    The basics of seamanship
    A comprehensive introduction to chartwork
    Electronic navigation using chartplotters and GPS.
    Pilotage and passage planning
 
    Stability
On successful completion you will have enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day. 
This formatof the course is flexible and can be 5 full days at weekends or weekdays or up to 10 short days to fit between "school runs". There is a significant amount of work to be done outside course hours.  There will be two assessment papers to complete, firstly a general paper covering  seamanship, collision regulations, buoyage, pilotage meteorology etc. and secondly one covering chartwork and tides.
Portland plotter and dividers are required, we have some to borrow or we can sell you a set. You just need to bring a notepad pencils (2B only!) and a good quality eraser.
Course Requirements
No prior knowledge is required, but there will be homework.
The course hours are to be agreed with students and may be quite flexible. The classroom time must total at least 40 hours. Tea, coffee water and biscuits provided.
This course   leads onto the RYA Coastal / Offshore Yachtmaster Theory  course and is complemented by the 
RYA VHF/SRC Radio Course.
